“We must be willing to restore the spirit of risk,” writes bel hooks in her 1989 manifest for a radical feminist pedagogy. In an age where full economisation has dishearteningly taken hold of a majority of educational institutions, while certain categories associated with radical pedagogy – say “unlearning” or even simply “school” – have acquired an almost erotically charged aura in the field in which art discourse, politics and life style merge, it seems necessary to me to go back to source texts like bell hooks, in order to build from the ground up indeed: a spirit of risk.
