Forgotten Heritage

An online European Avant-Garde art archive. The male dominant situation in the Polish art sphere have somehow caused a huge amount of women artists who just disappeared from the memory and discourse.

Country: Poland

The archive lead by the Arton Foundation (situated in Warsaw) with partners in Belgium, Estonia, Croatia and Germany. The database is now in the process of construction and it will contain approx. 8000 archives of the avant-garde artists of the second half of the 20th century. What concerns the Polish part of the project, and what is most interesting part for me, is that the Arton Foundation puts a huge attention to the women’s art archives which are literally in the process of rescuing now (and searching for more and more of them). The male dominant situation in the Polish art sphere have somehow caused a huge amount of women artists who just disappeared from the memory and discourse.
